Civil Guard detains British man in Spain’s Mijas after 33-year-old woman falls to her death from fifth-floor of building

THE CIVIL GUARD in Mijas have arrested a 36-year-old British man after his occasional partner was found dead on Saturday. The 33-year-old woman from Chile fell to her death from the fifth floor of a building, in what investigators believe could be a domestic violence case.

Sources told La Opinion de Malaga that the suspect had two cases of gender violence registered in VioGen, a monitoring system run by the Spanish government, although they were both inactive.

The same sources reports that the victim had called the emergency services the night before her death after she had allegedly been assaulted by the British man. She was taken to hospital for treatment but refused to file a complaint.

At 8.40am on Saturday morning, the emergency services were contacted after the woman fell from a fifth floor at the Riviera Sol de Calahonda urbanization.

Sources also told La Opinion de Malaga that the woman had tried to kill herself several times in the past.

Investigators are following the line of inquiry of a domestic violence case but are also not ruling out suicide.

So far this year, 52 women have died at the hands of their partners or ex-partners.
