British tourist aged just 23 dies in Spain’s Tenerife after trying to cross busy motorway

A BRITISH tourist aged just 23 was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning after he tried to cross a busy motorway on the Canary Island of Tenerife. 

The tragic accident happened at around 4am, when the young man was struck by a vehicle on the TF-1 at the 80-kilometre mark in the Adeje municipality, according to the 112 emergency services. 

He reportedly climbed over a safety barrier in order to cross the road. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene, according to press reports, but were unable to do anything to save the man’s life.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. 

The Guardia Civil will now take charge of an investigation to determine what happened. 

The TF-1 motorway encircles the eastern and southern parts of Tenerife, and runs between the capital Santa Cruz in the north to Adeje in the south, and then continues on to Santiago del Teide in the west.
