Flights cancelled and delayed at major airport in Spain today due to issues with the runway

A MAJOR airport in Spain has seen flights cancelled and delayed due to runway issues. 

A popular Spanish airport is experiencing severe delays after objects were found on the runway.

According to air traffic control, the problems started after pieces of ‘tyre’ were reportedly found on the runway. 

It has caused many flights to be cancelled, including the VLG 3501 to Barcelona. 

Another flight to Palma was due to set off at 7 am but was cancelled, forcing passengers to return to the terminal. 

According to the Diario de Ibiza, firefighters have attended the scene, alerting passengers to the presence of objects on the runway. 

Other flights to Pisa and Badajoz have been delayed. 

Meanwhile, a flight coming from Milan was redirected to Palma after it could not land in Ibiza. 

The Spanish Airports and Air Navigation group, Aena, said the ‘runway had been closed for cleaning’ but have not given any further details. 

The total number of affected flights have not been confirmed.
