Teenage football fan is fined €7,000 in Spain for making racist gestures towards a black player

A YOUNG football fan has been fined €7,000 in Spain after making racist gestures towards a black footballer.

Real Madrid was playing against RCD Mallorca on Saturday, April 13 in the Estadi Son Moix when the incident occurred.

The fan reportedly made ‘monkey gestures’ towards French midfielder Aurelin Tchouameni after he scored the winning goal for Real Madrid.

Now, the Spanish Commission against Violence, Racism and Xenophobia has imposed various sanctions on the fan.

These include a €4,000 fine, a 12 month ban on entering sports areas, a further €3,001 fine and a six month ban on entering football stadiums.

The latter sanction was imposed after the fan threw two water bottles onto the field, though they did not hit any players, it did cause the game to be paused for at least a minute.

Spain’s anti violence commission also gave a €4,000 fine and a 12 month stadium ban to another fan for making racist gestures at Real Madrid player, Vinicius Jr. during a Ray Vallecano game.

It’s not the first time the Brazilian player has been the victim of racist insults.

A fan was given the same sanctions after making racist comments and gestures towards Vinicius during a Valencia-Real Madrid game.

The incidents are not contained to Real Madrid.

On March 30, Argentine player Marcos Acuña was also on the receiving end of racist insults during a game between Getafe and Sevilla.

The referee was forced to pause the game for over two minutes while the stadium’s anti-racism protocol was activated.

The day saw a further two incidents, where trainer Quique Sánchez Flores was called a ‘gypsy’ from the stands and Rayo Majadahonda goalkeeper Cheikh Sarr received racist insults.

Racism is a hot topic in Spanish football, where fines are regularly handed out to fans, leading players to demand action from officials.

Following the three incidents, fellow victim Vinicius Jr called for ‘jail’ for racist fans.
