WATCH: Moment a dead horse is removed from the Feria de Abril in Sevilla: Animal suffered a heart attack during 28C heat – sparking outrage among activists

ANIMAL activists are outraged after a horse suffered a heart attack and died due to 28C heat at the Feria de Abril in Sevilla.

The first day of Sevilla’s famous feria has seen a ‘perfectly healthy’ horse die of a heart attack.

It was taking part in the paseo de caballos, a parade of horses.

The exact cause of the heart attack is unknown.

Various onlookers tried to help the animal, which fell near the junction of Juan Belmonte and calle Chicuelo.

Nonetheless, the horse passed away and its body was removed by council services.

The Feria de Abril has a veterinary attention point with vehicles and personnel dedicated to helping with any animal incidents.

From 12:00-21:00 pm they are available to deal with falls, injuries or illnesses.

This is not the first time a horse has died at the Feria, leading to fury from animal activists.

Spain’s animal rights and environmentalist party, PACMA, said in a Tweet: “Another year, another horse died at Sevilla’s Feria de Abril. It was yesterday, the first day, and this week temperatures are due to go above 30C.

“This morning we will report the Ayuntamiento de Sevilla and Seprona (The Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Unit) so that they put an investigation in place to investigate the death of this horse and take measures to avoid more deaths in the feria.

Put an end to animal cruelty!”
