Power cut in Spain: Thousands of homes affected in Catalunya, Murcia, Madrid and more

A MAJOR cut left thousands of homes in Spain without electricity.

Large parts of the country were impacted by the cut at around 4.30pm on Saturday, with multiple regions suffering from the power outage.

Neighbourhoods in Andalucia, Catalunya, Murcia, Madrid, Navarre, Aragon, Basque Country, Castilla y León and Extremadura were affected by the blackout.

In Catalunya, some 640,000 homes lost power, while Murcia 202 homes reported loss of electricity, while 112 residents in Madrid made official complaints.

Energy company Red Eléctrica apologised to residents across Spain who were affected by the large scale outage.

In a tweet they advised that the incident had been resolved and explained the cause of the problem.

They wrote: “An incident with a seaplane has generated a problem in the French very high voltage network, causing the temporary disconnection of the peninsula from the rest of Europe. The problem has already been solved.”
